For people who do not work Monday to Friday

How many shifts have you got left?

A weekday countdown is wrong for a nurse, a copper, a driver or anyone on a rota. This one counts your pattern, from the day your cycle started, with the bank holidays that land on a shift and the leave you have booked taken off.

Counted from today. The app lets you set the exact day your block started. Hours assume a twelve-hour shift.

Two to twenty-eight days. Your start date. Done.

Tell the app how long your cycle is and which days in it you work, then the day your current cycle began. From there it knows every rostered day between now and your retirement date, however far off that is.

Holidays that land on a shift

A bank holiday only counts if you were due in.

On a rota, Christmas Day is only a day off if it falls on one of your days. The app checks every public holiday in every year to your date against your pattern and only takes off the ones that were rostered. Same with leave: it comes off the days you actually book.

  • UK bank holidays including substitute days
  • US federal holidays including observed days
  • Canada, Australia and Europe
  • Add your own dates for local or trust holidays

Night Shift theme

Drawn for the board in the depot at five in the morning.

Amber digits on a dark screen, with a thin line of dawn under the number. The digits are set in a monospace face so the seconds do not jitter. It is the theme this page is wearing, and it is the one the app was built around.

Questions

Shift patterns.

How many shifts do I have left until retirement?

Set your retirement date, your rota and the day the cycle started. The app counts forward through the cycle to your date, takes off the public holidays that land on a rostered day and the leave you have booked, and shows the shifts you have left, plus the hours.

Does four on four off work?

Yes. It is an eight-day cycle with four days worked. Set the day your current block began and the app knows every rostered day from there. Three on three off, five on five off, 2-2-3 and anything from 2 to 28 days work the same way.

What about a nine-day fortnight or a 9/80?

Both are a fourteen-day cycle with nine days worked. Choose the nine-day fortnight preset, or mark the nine days yourself if your off day is not the usual one.

My rota changes every few weeks.

Change the pattern in the app when it changes. The count is always worked out from today, so an old pattern never lingers in the total.

Nights that cross midnight?

A shift counts as one rostered day, on the day it starts. The countdown is about how many more times you go in, not how many calendar days you touch.
